MA/MS in Social Work

Tennessee State University, a public HBCU and land-grant institution in Middle Tennessee, delivers this graduate program for advanced generalist practice in social work. Its mission focuses on human well-being, access to resources and social justice, especially for groups that are vulnerable or oppressed. Several pathways lead to the degree, and students can attend full time or part time. Depending on the pathway, finishing may take between one and four years. Accreditation from the national social work education council was granted in February 2022, an important step because graduates need it for later licensure. Classes meet at an off-campus site in downtown Nashville. Candidates submit applications through SocialWorkCAS. A school social work course is also coordinated by the program to support the state credential required of social workers in schools.
