BCIT's Power Engineering First Class courses prepare students for the Interprovincial 1st Class Power Engineer exam, the top tier of the province's power engineering certification structure. The courses are delivered by correspondence and are split into Part A and Part B, together made up of eight papers covering advanced plant operation and engineering theory at the highest certification level. Entry requires the candidate to already hold 2nd Class Power Engineer certification, reflecting the sequential nature of the credential ladder. As with other correspondence levels in this program, students can register for a maximum of two courses at once, allowing them to pace study alongside work commitments. There are no live online classes; material is worked through independently, with instructor support available by email, phone, and online conferencing.
