Overview
The General Insurance and Risk management diploma program gives you specialized training to investigate insurance claims, market and sell insurance products, manage risk in securities, banks, insurance underwriting, and more. This program has been developed by industry professionals specifically to prepare you for a successful, exciting career in your field.
Through out the program there will be many opportunities to interact with industry professionals with networking and industry events. Along with a 40 hour work placement which helps students get direct industry work experience.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry requires English Studies 12 at 67% (or equivalent) plus one of Pre-Calculus 11, Foundations of Mathematics 11, Workplace Mathematics 11, OPMT 0199 Math for Business, or the OPMT 0198 Business Math Assessment Test, each at 67%, or an equivalent BC/Yukon course. English Studies 12 at 67% corresponds to BCIT's Category 2 English Language Proficiency standard, also met by IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (no band under 5.5), TOEFL iBT 4.5 overall (no section under 3.5), PTE Academic 60, Duolingo 120, or CAEL 70. Accepted students are contacted about a math assessment test; scoring below 67% requires supplementary math coursework. Applicants whose credentials are from outside Canada, the US, UK, Australia, or New Zealand need a basic International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES) evaluation. International students must complete a mandatory work-placement component to graduate, and a valid BCIT study permit is required before starting.

Applications open 1 October (9:00 am PT) and close 11:59 pm PT on 1 September for domestic applicants and 2 July for international applicants; a date falling on a weekend moves to the next business day. The September 2026 intake is now closed to new applications — applications for re-admission and direct entry are still accepted — and applications for September 2027 open on 1 October 2026.
