Program details

Overview

This program leads to a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, delivered in Ottawa, and examines how families, economic inequality, sexuality, gender, race, disability, law and the state shape individuals, and how individuals in turn shape these institutions. Students can choose a Social Justice stream that partners with community organizations on research, public campaigns and documentary projects. A paid Co-op option is available to eligible students, alongside hands-on research opportunities. Introductory coursework covers the discipline's theory, methods and history, including topics such as class, gender, sexuality, racialization and social interaction, before moving into the history of sociological thought and its major theoretical traditions. Graduates commonly pursue careers in business, community service, government, health, human resources, non-governmental organizations, policy analysis, public policy development, research and social services. The program suits students interested in how social structures and institutions shape everyday life and individual experience.
