Arts (BA) is Carleton University's Bachelor of Arts, spanning more than 30 disciplines including African Studies, Anthropology, English, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology. Students build transferable skills such as effective written and spoken communication and creative and critical thinking, while choosing from minors, concentrations, double-majors, or a BA Undeclared option that allows exploration of subjects before committing to a discipline. First-year Seminar classes are kept small, usually around 30 students, to support close engagement between students and instructors. Students can gain applied experience through co-op, practicum or internship placements, and pursue study-abroad opportunities as part of the degree. A General Studies option lets students complete part of the programme online instead of entirely on campus. Graduates leave with broad analytical, research and communication skills applicable across community organizations, government, business and non-profit settings.
