Program details

Overview

Environmental Engineering is a Bachelor of Engineering program at Carleton University providing a broad education in science and technology with a focus on the environment and climate. Students learn to analyze environmental problems and design solutions, with specialization areas including water and wastewater treatment, air pollution control, soil remediation, climate change and waste management. Coursework includes engineering and decision analysis and climate change and engineering. The program offers a high faculty-to-student ratio with hands-on laboratory access, a paid co-op option with work terms of 4, 6, 8, 12 or 16 months, and a paid eight-week First Year Internship Program. Graduates pursue careers in air quality control, conservation, water treatment system design, environmental sustainability, clean energy alternatives, waste management, ecosystem restoration and resource management.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission to the Bachelor of Engineering requires the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses. Four of these six courses must be the required 4U prerequisites: Advanced Functions, Chemistry, and Physics, plus one of Calculus and Vectors (recommended), Biology, or Earth and Space Science. A 4U course in English or French is recommended but not required for admission. The overall admission average and the prerequisite-course average are set each year on a program-by-program basis, and meeting the stated minimum only establishes eligibility for consideration; because places are limited, the cut-off average for a given intake year is typically well above the minimum. Applicants seeking direct entry to the co-op option must meet the required overall and prerequisite-course cut-off averages, be registered full-time in the program, and be eligible to work in Canada.
