Global Inequalities and Social Change is a specialization within Carleton University's Bachelor of Global and International Studies (BGInS) Honours degree. It combines theoretical and applied approaches to examine dimensions of global inequality, including poverty, racism, colonialism, and gender, alongside forms of resistance to oppression such as social movements. Students complete a common BGInS core alongside specialization-specific coursework, a second-language requirement (choices include Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, or American Sign Language), and an international experience requirement fulfilled through study abroad, an international internship, a course taken abroad, or an international group project. A Co-op work-integrated learning option is available. The Honours degree totals 20.0 credits and is normally completed over four years of full-time study.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants require the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, including a minimum of six Grade 12 4U or M courses, one of which must be a 4U course in English (or Français). The minimum overall admission average is set each year on a program-by-program basis; meeting the minimum requirements establishes eligibility for consideration but does not guarantee admission, as places are limited and demand can exceed availability.
