Overview
Global Development is a specialization within Carleton University's Bachelor of Global and International Studies (BGInS) Honours degree. It takes a multidisciplinary approach, drawing on anthropology, economics, geography, and political science to examine how global development challenges unfold, including climate change, human security, and global epidemics. The specialization is intended for students planning careers with government departments, non-governmental organizations, or companies operating internationally. Students complete a common BGInS core alongside specialization-specific coursework, a second-language requirement (choices include Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, or American Sign Language), and an international experience requirement fulfilled through study abroad, an international internship, a course taken abroad, or an international group project. A Co-op work-integrated learning option is available. The Honours degree totals 20.0 credits and is normally completed over four years of full-time study.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants require the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, including a minimum of six Grade 12 4U or M courses, one of which must be a 4U course in English (or Français).
