Overview
Interactive Multimedia and Design (IMD) is a specialization of Carleton University's Bachelor of Information Technology, delivered jointly with Algonquin College so graduates earn a Carleton degree and an Algonquin Advanced Diploma of Applied Arts. The programme bridges technical and academic learning through courses in computer animation, computer programming, visual effects, game design and development, graphic and web design, and human-computer interaction, using industry-standard technologies and professional-grade software. Students have access to a motion capture studio and a games and graphics lab. Sample courses include Visual Dynamics, covering the fundamentals of composition with emphasis on realistic rendering, and Sensor-Based Interaction, covering development of interactive applications that connect physical and virtual space. A co-op option offers work terms of 4, 6, 8, 12 or 16 months. Graduates have gone on to employers including Adobe, Sony Imageworks, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, MPC, Shopify and the LEGO Group, in roles spanning game development, animation, graphic design, UX/UI design and visual effects.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry to first year requires the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, including a minimum of six 4U or M courses, which must include Advanced Functions. Candidates must also submit a portfolio of creative work as part of their application.
