Overview
This bachelor's degree in Political Science is delivered on campus in Ottawa. Students choose one of three concentrations: Canadian Politics and Public Policy, International Relations and World Politics, or Power and Political Ideas. Coursework addresses international conflict and diplomacy, populism and political representation, democracy, the governance of climate change, human migration, political philosophy, and public policy, with specialized seminars covering electoral reform, political activism, and international conflicts. Applied opportunities include international exchanges, internships, co-op placements, and work as a research assistant, and students can also apply for an internship placement through the Washington Center. The program accepts applicants from a range of educational backgrounds, including Ontario high school, international, and transfer students. Admission Requirements: Political Science is a major within Carleton's Bachelor of Arts (BA). Ontario secondary school applicants apply through OUAC with an OSSD plus six 4U/M courses at the 4U level with no individual grade below 60%; Carleton's BA admission chart requires English for all BA majors, including Political Science, with no additional major-specific prerequisite course listed. International applicants apply through Carleton360 or OUAC 105 with transcripts equivalent to an Ontario secondary diploma and must meet Carleton's English-language proficiency standard unless exempt: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 per band), TOEFL 4.5 overall (minimum 4.0 per band; 86 for tests taken before 21 January 2026), Duolingo 120, PTE Academic 55, CAEL 70, or Cambridge C1/C2 176.
