This program leads to a Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture at Carleton University, based at the Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism. The 10-credit curriculum combines coursework with a dissertation, and doctoral projects draw on the interrelated performative and reflective aspects of architecture, design and material processes across a broad range of research fields. Students can work in three research labs: the Carleton Immersive Media Studio, which develops digital and fabricated 2D and 3D modes of representation; the Carleton Research/Practice of Teaching Collaborative, which pursues humanities research through publications, exhibitions and symposia; and the Carleton Sensory Architecture and Liminal Technologies laboratory, which examines the material nature of architecture, construction and design. A collaborative Specialization in African Studies is available. The program normally takes five years to complete on a full-time basis, with admission for the Fall term.
