The PhD in Architecture is offered by the Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture in the Faculty of Engineering. The program supports original interdisciplinary research into the history and theory of the built environment, building technology, climate-conscious design, media and computation, urban studies, and spatial justice. The School has been engaged in funded research since its graduate programs began in 1947, offering advanced degrees across housing, architecture, material culture, community engagement, history and theory, and technology. Students have access to the McGill Visual Arts Collection, Rare Books and Special Collections, the Osler Medical Library, the McCord Museum of Canadian History, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, along with grant and research opportunities through the Canadian Centre for Architecture and the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec. The program prepares graduates for academic careers or leadership roles in curation, publication, and the building industry. Admission is in the Fall term.
