Overview

Carleton's MA in Art and Architectural History combines classroom instruction with on-site training at national museums and cultural institutions in Ottawa, giving students direct exposure to curatorial and collections-based work alongside academic study. The program examines visual culture, critical approaches to art history, and the institutional contexts in which art and architecture are produced, displayed, and interpreted. Delivered in person over two years with a single Fall intake, the program offers both thesis and non-thesis coursework completion pathways. Graduates are prepared for careers in the cultural sector, including museums, galleries, heritage organizations, and archives, as well as for further graduate study in art history or related humanities fields.
