Environmental, Health and Safety Technology (Environnement, hygiène et sécurité au travail) is a three-year technical diploma, offered at only three cégeps in Quebec, that trains technicians to protect worker health and safety in the workplace. The program covers three main areas: environmental regulatory compliance, industrial hygiene (air quality, noise, and temperature monitoring), and workplace health and safety risk assessment. Students train in a newly equipped laboratory and complete two paid work-study placements of 10 to 14 weeks each. An accelerated track lets students who have already completed their college general-education component complete the program in two years instead of three. Graduates work as environmental or industrial-hygiene technicians, accident-prevention advisors, health and safety trainers or coordinators, and environmental, hygiene, or safety consultants. The program leads to a Diploma of College Studies (DEC).
