Program details

Overview

Arts visuels (Visual Arts) is a two-year pre-university Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) at Cegep de Rimouski covering drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, digital imagery, video art and art history. The program develops technical skill, creativity and artistic knowledge while examining the role of the artist in society, and organizes studio coursework across 2D, 3D and digital production tracks alongside foundation courses in philosophy, communication, literature and physical education over four trimesters. Students benefit from visits by professional artists and educational trips, and work with specialized studios and equipment; the program's capstone projects are exhibited at the Regional Museum of Rimouski. It suits students described by the college as open-minded, autonomous, creative and persevering, who want to work with colour, material, space and form. Graduates go on to roles as artists, designers, art directors, teachers, graphic designers, illustrators and cultural workers, or continue into university programs in animation, art therapy, graphic design, industrial design, teaching, art history or scenography. Admission requires a Secondary V diploma.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The programme's own admission page states only the Cégep's general entry requirement: a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES), or its equivalent, submitted through Quebec's regional collegial admissions portal (SRACQ). The page notes that students meeting the published requirements are generally admitted, and that anyone still missing a prerequisite at application time can complete it through the Tremplin DEC pathway before starting the program proper. No further subject prerequisite, minimum grade or admission average, language-proficiency test score, portfolio of artwork, or interview is published for this Visual Arts program; admission rests on holding the DES alone, with no other selection criterion listed on the page.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through the Service regional d'admission au collegial de Quebec (SRACQ): for Fall 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 March 2027, with further rounds in May, June and August, and for Winter 2027 entry the first-round deadline is 1 November 2026, with further rounds in December and January. International applicants apply through SRACQ's separate international-student portal, but Cegep de Rimouski publishes no fixed international closing date, and requires a 7,000 CAD pre-admission deposit before issuing an admission letter. Domestic admission proceeds through successive SRACQ rounds rather than one hard cutoff, so later applicants are still considered while seats remain; no international deadline is published. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
