Overview
Techniques d'éducation à l'enfance is a technical DEC preparing students to work with children aged 0 to 12, supporting their overall development in partnership with their families and communities. Students complete a clinical placement (stage) starting in the first term, with particular attention given to supporting children with special needs. Learning takes place through pedagogical projects in real settings, including a partner CPE (early-childhood centre) and a partner daycare service, as well as through pedagogical days, and students have access to observation and experimentation laboratories and a specialized resource library (matériathèque) for their field. An international placement is also available. The program offers a DEC intensif option that lets students who already hold most of their general-education credits from a previous college program (at least 11 of 14 courses in French, English, philosophy, and physical education) complete the credential in two years instead of three, focusing on the program-specific courses. It suits students who want to work directly with young children in early-childhood and educational settings, particularly those already interested in child development and family and community partnership, including students transferring general-education credits from another college program.

Admission Requirements: The regular pathway of this DES-based program states no specific course prerequisite; students entering the intensive DEC (accelerated) pathway must already have passed 11 of the 14 general-education courses. A certificat d'absence d'empêchement (proof of no disqualifying criminal record) is required from the first session so students can complete their placements in licensed childcare settings. As with all Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe programs, applicants apply through SRAM and must meet the college's French-proficiency conditions: a French-mastery or placement test where applicable, and the upgrading course 601-013-HY for weaker Secondary 5 French results, per the Cégep's admission-requirements page; every admitted student also sits the college's English placement test.
