Diploma in Animal Health Techniques

This DEC Technique programme trains students to contribute to the care and well-being of a range of animal species, combining veterinary technical skills with client-communication ability. Graduates are trained to perform physical examinations and diagnostic tests, take samples, radiographs, and ultrasounds, assist veterinarians during surgery, administer anesthesia and monitor animals, and provide preventive, curative, and palliative care across multiple species. Training uses small-group laboratories in facilities that reproduce clinical environments, supported by an on-site animal facility and an agreement with the Mauricie SPCA. Two placements in the final session, each 33 hours per week over five weeks, take place in settings such as veterinary clinics, shelters, zoos, and research centres. Three pathways are offered: regular (three years), intensive (two years, unique in Quebec), and extended (four years, unique in Quebec). Course-credit recognition agreements exist with Université Laval and UQTR for university continuation. The credential is a Diplôme d'études collégiales (DEC) issued by Collège Laflèche.
