College of the North Atlantic's Rehabilitation Assistant (OTA & PTA) program is a diploma spanning nine semesters, roughly three years part-time, training students to work under the supervision of occupational and physical therapists. Delivery combines online asynchronous coursework with flexible lab options, where students attend labs on site at the Prince Philip Drive campus, join live virtually, or access recordings. The curriculum includes 19 weeks of clinical placement across five placements in rehabilitation facilities, hospitals, long-term care facilities, community settings, and private practices, drawing on NL Health Services and out-of-province clinical partners. Before starting placements, accepted students must complete a Criminal Record Check, a Vulnerable Sector Check, the NL Student Preplacement Immunizations and Communicable Diseases Screening Form, and mask fit testing. Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires a High School Graduation Certificate with a 60% overall average, including English 3201 (60% minimum), Mathematics (Advanced 2200/3200 at 50% minimum or Academic 2201 at 50%/3201 at 60%), one science course from Biology, Physics, Chemistry, or Earth Systems (50% minimum), and two additional Level 3000 electives; equivalent College Transition or Adult Basic Education (Level III) routes are also accepted. Mature student applicants (age 19+, out of school at least one year) may be considered on an individual basis. Before beginning clinical placements, accepted students must complete a Criminal Record Check, a Vulnerable Sector Check, the NL Student Preplacement Immunizations and Communicable Diseases Screening Form, and mask fit testing. Applicants whose first language is not English must present an IELTS Academic Test overall band score of 7.0, with a minimum of 7.0 in Speaking, 7.5 in Listening, 6.5 in Reading, and 7.0 in Writing.
