Program details

Overview

This Master of Computer Science, offered through Concordia's Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science, is a thesis-based program requiring a minimum of 45 credits, of which 29 are devoted to thesis research. Coursework is drawn from seven areas, including parallel and distributed systems, image processing, pattern recognition and graphics, software systems and languages, information processing and management, scientific computation and algorithms, and artificial intelligence and human-machine communication, with additional electives available in software engineering topics. The program is intended to broaden students' knowledge and build their research capabilities in a chosen area of computer science. Delivered on the Sir George Williams campus with Fall, Winter, and Summer start terms, the program normally takes two years to complete. Admission requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline such as engineering, science, or mathematics with a strong academic record, along with demonstrated English proficiency. It suits students from computing and related technical backgrounds, as well as those from business and industry, who want a solid, research-oriented education in computer science.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants need a bachelor's degree in computer science, or in a related discipline such as engineering, science or mathematics, with very high academic standing; the program page does not publish a specific minimum GPA or average. Applicants whose primary language is not English must meet Concordia's graduate English-language proficiency requirement, set out on the university's graduate admissions site rather than on this program page, and priority is given to complete applications received by the deadline. The program admits in Fall, Winter and Summer: Canadian-resident deadlines are July 1, November 1 and March 1 respectively, with earlier U.S./international deadlines of March 1, July 1 and November 1.

Application Details

Start Date: September, January and May
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants, including Quebec CEGEP graduates, apply directly to Concordia: for Fall 2027 entry (September start) the application deadline is 1 March 2027, and for Winter 2027 entry (January start) it is 1 November 2026; not all programs admit in Winter. Concordia sets the same formal deadlines for U.S. and international applicants but strongly recommends applying earlier - by 1 February 2027 for Fall or 1 August 2026 for Winter - to allow time for immigration processing. Late applications are considered if space remains, and Concordia does not publish a separate application-opening date. Graduate programs, including the Executive MBA, set their own per-program deadlines rather than following this university-wide undergraduate date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
