The Individualized Doctorate (Doctorat sur mesure) is a 90-credit customized Ph.D. program at École de Technologie Supérieure for students whose specialized research does not fit within an existing doctoral program. The structure comprises two mandatory non-credit workshops, two graduate-level courses (6 credits), a doctoral examination (9 credits), and a doctoral thesis (75 credits) built around an individually defined field of expertise. Admission normally requires a master's degree (M.Sc.A. or M.Ing.) in an appropriate domain; in exceptional cases, applicants with a bachelor's degree may be admitted if they demonstrate adequate research preparation and an excellent academic record. Every applicant must obtain the prior consent of a research supervisor before applying. The program is offered full-time, though part-time admission is possible for students with employer support. Candidates must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of French, or sufficient English proficiency attested by a degree from an English-language institution or an approved TOEFL or TOEIC score.
