Program details

Overview

You’ll begin by studying anatomy, nutrition, pharmacology and the importance of strong interpersonal skills with patients, families, colleagues and community members. You’ll learn to work effectively within the practical nurses’ professional role and scope of practice as a self-sufficient and collaborative partner with clients and other healthcare providers. The curriculum continues to evolve in response to current nursing and health care evidence and trends. You'll also study theory in the classroom, practice your nursing skills in our simulation labs and get plenty of hands-on clinical practice in acute, community and long-term care settings, under the guidance of a qualified supervisor. The curriculum continues to evolve in response to current evidence in nursing and health care trends.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Competitive program. Entry needs an OSSD, an equivalent, or mature-applicant status, with at least 65% in Grade 12 English (C or U), Grade 11 or 12 Biology (C or U), Grade 11 or 12 Chemistry (C or U), and Grade 11 Math (U or M) or Grade 12 Math (C or U); Fanshawe warns that Grade 12 Foundations for College Math (MAP4C) may not prepare you adequately and suggests MCT4C where a college-level math is used. International applicants face an extra step the domestic route does not have: Fanshawe states that international students must graduate from Pre-Health Sciences before this program will consider them. Domestic applicants who fall short can instead take the one-year Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diplomas, and graduating from it with a 3.0 GPA and nothing below 65% in the listed courses satisfies the requirements. English at health-career level: IELTS Academic 7.0 overall with 6.5 in reading and listening and 7.0 in writing and speaking, TOEFL iBT 5.5 overall with no band under 5 (5.5 in writing and speaking), PTE Academic 65, CAEL 70 with 80 in listening, Duolingo 135, Cambridge English 185, LanguageCert Academic 75. Where applicants exceed seats, ranking is by preference for Ontario permanent residents, application received by 1 February, then achievement in the requirements. Before placement: Standard First Aid plus BLS for Health Care Providers certification, evidence of good health including immunisations, and a Police Vulnerable Sector Check that includes the Pardoned Sexual Offenders Database.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for Fall 2027 entry, applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, after which later applications are assessed on a first-come basis until seats fill; non-competitive programs begin receiving offers from 1 November 2026, competitive-program offers go out by 30 March 2027, and 1 May 2027 is the usual deadline to accept an offer. International applicants apply directly to Fanshawe (CAD 100 fee) and face fixed document deadlines rather than a single closing date: for the current intakes, study-permit and conditions-met documents are due 10/15 August 2026 (Fall), 9/15 December 2026 (Winter) and 5/15 April 2027 (Summer); missing a deadline can mean deferral to the next intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
