Fanshawe College's Plumbing Apprentice programme is a block release apprenticeship leading to an Ontario College Certificate. Apprentices learn to plan, install, maintain and repair plumbing systems, combining paid, on-the-job training with a sponsoring employer with full-time, on-campus classroom instruction delivered in blocks rather than through continuous semesters. Each in-school classroom block covers the trade theory, codes and applied skills required at that level of the apprenticeship before the apprentice returns to the workplace to apply the training. The classroom component is scheduled around the employer-sponsored, on-the-job portion of the apprenticeship, which forms the majority of the training time. Admission, sponsorship and progression through the apprenticeship are administered through Skilled Trades Ontario's registration system rather than Fanshawe's standard academic application process, and applicants cannot apply to the programme directly through ontariocolleges.ca.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This is an apprenticeship programme and cannot be applied to through ontariocolleges.ca. To participate, applicants must first secure a sponsor/employer in the plumbing trade and then complete a registered training agreement through Skilled Trades Ontario; Fanshawe's classroom blocks are scheduled once the apprentice is registered and called forward by their employer.
