The Robotics Technician program is a 28-week, part-time certificate delivered fully online as distance education, leading to a George Brown College certificate. It introduces industrial robots and their use in plant and manufacturing systems, focusing on automated manufacturing processes and the role of robots and their support equipment, including motion programming, palletizing, conveyor systems, computer networking, automated sorting, and vision and tactile sensors. Instruction combines multimedia learning resources with RoboLogix simulation software, based on FANUC LR Mate series robots, which emulates Cartesian and SCARA robot designs so students can program, test and debug robot routines on a personal computer without dedicated lab equipment. The self-directed curriculum contains 14 modules of theory and lab projects, each with text, animations, audio lectures, illustrations, review questions, pre-built lab projects and practice exams, allowing students to progress at their own pace from home or the workplace. Only a personal computer and internet connection are required, with no need to attend college on a full- or part-time basis.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The academic prerequisite for students entering the Robotics Technician program is an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (with credits at or above general level) or equivalent or mature student status. If you are 19 years or older and do not have a high school diploma, you may enrol as a mature student.
