Program details

Overview

Lakehead University's Forestry program leads to an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry, accredited by the Canadian Forestry Accreditation Board, and its graduates meet the academic requirements for Registered Professional Forester designation and Canadian Institute of Forestry membership. The first two years share curriculum with the Environmental Management program, covering biological, social, and operational fundamentals of forestry, including required first-year courses in natural resources management, biology, chemistry, economics, English, geography, and geology. After the second year, students specialize in Forest Management, Forest Health and Protection, or Forest Products and Marketing, working with technologies such as GPS/GIS mapping, remote sensing, and drone-based data collection. The program includes co-operative education placements, international field school excursions, and field-trip courses, and requires First Aid certification for fieldwork. It is offered full-time at the Thunder Bay campus, with a part-time option also available. The program suits students, including high school and transfer students meeting relevant prerequisites, who want an accredited forestry credential combining classroom study, technology-based fieldwork, and work-integrated learning.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Applications for the 2027 cycle open mid-September 2026. Domestic Fall 2027 deadlines are January 15, 2027 for current Ontario high-school (101) applicants and August 31, 2027 for other domestic applicants, with Winter 2027 domestic entry due December 1, 2026; college-transfer applicants have until March 1, 2027. International applicants must apply by March 1, 2027 for Fall 2027 entry and November 2, 2026 for Winter 2027 entry. These exclude the Two-Year Bachelor of Education, the Bachelor of Social Work and Nursing, which carry their own dates. Programmes generally keep accepting applications after the recommended deadline while space remains, so admission runs on a rolling basis in practice even though firm dates are published. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
