Overview
The Education Assistant Co-ordinated Diploma is a mix of theory and practical experience about ways to support children and youth with special needs in the school setting combined with 30 university-transferable credits. The program will provide you with the opportunity to become a competent and employable paraprofessional and in inclusive classrooms. You will receive hands-on experience alongside teachers and teams supporting students with disabilities. The program includes two extended practicum experiences in local schools. Requirements
Admission Requirements: Domestic applicants need BC Grade 12 graduation (or equivalent) or to be 19 or older; international applicants need BC Grade 12 graduation (or equivalent). The programme applies Langara's higher Category 1 English proficiency standard: English 12/Literary Studies 12 at 70%, IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band under 6.0, TOEFL iBT 88 (Writing 20, Reading 20, Listening 20, Speaking 20), Duolingo 110, CAEL 70 with no band under 60, or PTE Academic 56 with no skill under 55; applicants without this may need an English Placement Test. Beyond academics, the programme asks for volunteer or paid work experience (preference to 100 hours with children with disabilities), two letters of reference, a faculty interview, and a Criminal Record Check before the first practicum. Admission is competitive and meeting minimums does not guarantee a seat; applicants with prior post-secondary study may be preferred if they hold a 2.0 GPA.
