Overview

The Bachelor of Architectural Studies is a four-year undergraduate degree offered through the McEwen School of Architecture on Laurentian's downtown Sudbury campus, intended as pre-professional preparation for graduate study toward a Master of Architecture. The curriculum focuses on design, culture, technology, and professional practice with particular attention to northern Ontario contexts, including design studio work, expertise in wood and other sustainable materials, Indigenous, Franco-Ontarian, Métis, and Inuit perspectives, climate-responsive design, and design-build projects such as ice-fishing huts, canoes, and saunas. Students complete two thirteen-week paid co-op placements, the first in industry or a related field and the second in an architecture office or design practice. Courses are taught on the main campus and at the downtown McEwen location, with some design studios and electives offered in French. It suits creatively minded students drawn to community-centred design, and graduates pursue roles in urban planning, community development, sustainability and ecology, industrial design, or graduate architecture programs.
