Pre-Powerline Technician Certificate is a 15-week program for students with no prior trades experience who plan to write the First Period Alberta Apprenticeship exam in the powerline trade. Coursework covers foundational utility electrical skills and workplace safety, and includes a two-week work placement. The program is delivered in a face-to-face format at a remote campus in Lethbridge, the Agriculture and Trades Training Facility, with some training days on the main campus. It is offered at Lethbridge Polytechnic to domestic students only; it is not open to international applicants. Intakes run in September and February. Non-academic entry expectations include the ability to work at heights, lift objects over 25 kilograms, and good colour vision and hearing; a valid driver's licence, class 3 recommended, is also required. Graduates are prepared to enter first-period powerline apprenticeship with employers in the trade.
