Pre-Welder Certificate is a 15-week program covering the material taught in the first year of welder apprenticeship training. Coursework includes workplace safety, reading plans and drawings, essential trades math, and practice in four types of welding. The program is delivered on campus in an apprenticeship-style training format, with some blended and hyflex components. It does not include a co-op or practicum placement. It is offered at Lethbridge Polytechnic to domestic students only; it is not open to international applicants. Intakes run in September and February. Non-academic entry expectations include the ability to lift objects over 25 kilograms, mechanical aptitude, good hearing and colour vision, and the ability to work as part of a team. Graduates are prepared to enter first-period welding apprenticeship with employers in the trade.
