Overview
The Digital Communications and Media diploma at Lethbridge Polytechnic is a two-year, on-campus programme preparing students for careers across journalism, communications, video, audio and photography. The curriculum covers research and writing for media, audio and video production, and social media content creation, building skills for communicating across contemporary media platforms. Students complete a 150-hour practicum providing applied, industry-based experience alongside classroom and lab instruction. Delivery is face-to-face on the main Lethbridge campus, with lectures, labs and hands-on training conducted on-site. The programme runs across four academic terms plus a practicum term, with a single intake each September. Graduates are prepared for roles such as content creator, media assistant, communications coordinator and junior journalist, and the diploma can also serve as a transfer pathway toward further study at partner institutions, subject to each institution's own credit-transfer requirements.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must meet Lethbridge Polytechnic's general admission requirements for polytechnic programs (a Canadian high school diploma including English 30-1 or 30-2, or an approved alternative route). From the 2027-2028 intake the program also requires English 30-1 or 30-2 (or equivalent) directly and asks all applicants to demonstrate English language proficiency. For non-native English speakers, the institution's general benchmarks apply: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80, PTE Academic 54, CAEL 60 overall (60 in Writing, 50 in all other bands), or Duolingo English Test 110.
