Animal Production covers methods for improving livestock production efficiency nationally and internationally, including animal nutrition, reproduction and breeding, considered alongside environmental and animal-welfare concerns. Upper-level courses address recent developments across the dairy, beef, swine, sheep and poultry industries. Instruction includes activities at the Macdonald Campus Farm and field trips to production facilities across Québec. Combined with the Agro-Environmental Sciences major and the Professional Agrology specialization, the programme fulfils eligibility requirements for the Ordre des agronomes du Québec (OAQ). It is offered within the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences as part of the Bachelor of Science (Agricultural and Environmental Sciences), with Agro-Environmental Sciences the recommended major. Courses include Principles of Animal Breeding, Animal Health and Disease, Mammalian Physiology and Animal Nutrition and Metabolism. Graduates pursue careers as professional agrologists, farm and livestock managers, consultants and researchers, with employers including government agricultural agencies and private industry.
