The Master of Science in Family Medicine is a thesis-based program offered by the Department of Family Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. It builds comprehensive research skills across quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, and participatory approaches, with an emphasis on real-world engagement across health care and community settings. Students develop the methodological and conceptual tools needed to advance primary health care research and contribute to evidence-informed practice and policy. Areas of focus include primary care, global health, medical education, Indigenous and Inuit health, health services and policy research, and artificial intelligence in health care. The program is supported by a community of primary health care professionals and researchers and the department assists students in securing funding for their studies. Graduates complete an original thesis and are prepared to conduct independent research. Admission requires an eligible bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 and English-language proficiency. Applications are accepted for Fall and Winter intakes.
