Trades - Apprenticeship in Electrician Apprenticeship

This four-year apprenticeship trains students in the installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems. Coursework covers reading electrical drawings, cutting and installing conduit, pulling wire, positioning distribution equipment, installing data cabling and fibre-optic systems, testing circuits, and working with photovoltaic renewable-energy systems. Electricians may specialize in residential, commercial, institutional, or industrial installations. Training combines employer-based on-the-job work with annual technical training blocks at the college over four years. Admission requires first securing employment with an employer willing to sponsor the apprenticeship, then completing an Apprenticeship Application and Contract through Alberta's Apprenticeship and Industry Training system. Graduates receive a Journeyperson Certificate and an Alberta Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate, with eligibility for the interprovincial Red Seal exam. Coursework also introduces safety practices and code compliance relevant to electrical work across these settings.
