PGCert in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (Full Time and Part Time)

Mohawk College’s MRI program offers flexible, online learning to gain the advanced technical skills and knowledge to qualify to write the CAMRT certification exam.  Program Accreditation The Mohawk College Graduate Certificate program for Magnetic Resonance Imaging is accredited with Accreditation Canada’s EQual™ program. Program Highlights Mohawk College's Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Ontario College Graduate Certificate program is offered full-time with a fall intake.This MRI program is well suited for technologists working in radiography, sonography, cardiac sonography (CMRITO registered), radiation therapy or nuclear medicine who wish to expand or change their practice to include MRI.  What you'll learnMohawk College's MRI program features integrated MRI simulations that immerse students in the software platforms prior to live applications in clinical placement.Course content is tailored to meet the needs of working technologists learning in an online environment, and follows universal design for learning (UDL) principles to provide options to support all students. For example, 360 anatomy web-based interactive course content and Nearpods to enhance skill development.Functional demandsThe functional demands required for a professional practice in Magnetic Resonance Imaging should be fully appreciated and working as a technologist in this demanding environment requires consideration for the following skills:Manual dexterityPhysical strength for both patient and equipment movementFine motor controlBoth critical thinking and strong written/verbal communication skillsEmpathy when interacting with patients of all agesStrong communication skillsManual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to manipulate equipment controlsPhysical strength to position patients and manipulate heavy equipment through a wide range of motionsAcute hearing to respond to low voices and ambient alarms and buzzersCritical thinking to be able to prioritize and respond to emergency situationsAcute vision to view images and distinguish fine features in contrast and detail Program length and deliveryThe MRI program content is delivered in an online blended format with both synchronous and asynchronous deliveries.The Imaging and Applications course includes 2-hour labs offered during the evening. In-person lab sessions take place in weeks 11-13, with online simulation labs occurring before and after the in-person portion.Students must complete the full program within 2 years from the start date. Extensions considered due to extenuating circumstances at the discretion of the College.​When part-time studies are available:Students have the option to take 3 courses each semester for a total of three semesters.Clinical placements are full-time and 15 weeks in duration.​​
