NAIT's Dental Assisting certificate is a 38-week program, made up of two 15-week semesters and an eight-week intercession, that prepares students to work as an essential part of a dental healthcare team. Coursework covers infection prevention and control, chairside restorative and specialty procedures, direct patient care, and dental practice administration. Instruction combines classroom learning with hands-on lab training in small groups for a favourable student-to-instructor ratio, and clinical placements in Edmonton's dental community, including providing treatment to peers and members of the public in NAIT's fully equipped onsite dental clinic. Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles in dental practices, working alongside dentists and dental hygienists on chairside procedures, direct patient care, and the day-to-day administration of a dental practice environment.
