Veterinary Medical Assistant is a one-year, in-person certificate program that prepares students to support veterinarians and veterinary technologists in animal-care settings. The program combines classroom instruction with hands-on training in animal clinics and shelters across Alberta, following a full-time weekday schedule. Coursework builds knowledge of animal handling, clinical procedures and client service, preparing graduates for both clinical and administrative responsibilities within a veterinary practice. Admission requires prior work-related experience in an animal-care setting, verified through a Registered Veterinary Technologist working under a licensed veterinarian, along with required immunizations and basic computer literacy. Graduates are prepared for roles in private veterinary practices, livestock centres and animal shelters, in a field with growing demand for trained veterinary support professionals, whether assisting with clinical procedures, managing administrative responsibilities, or supporting client service.
