This certificate prepares students for Power Engineering 4th Class standing, qualifying graduates to operate boilers and associated equipment at large-scale industrial facilities such as mills and waste treatment plants. Coursework is organized into two core modules, 4th Class A and 4th Class B, with an optional employment practicum. Classes are unscheduled and self-paced through the college's D2L system, available full-time or part-time from any location under the college's "NLC Anytime, Anywhere" delivery model. The full-time stream runs September to April, while part-time study can begin any month with up to three years to complete. The program is also available to high school students through dual credit. Graduates gain the qualifications needed to pursue Alberta Boiler Safety Association 4th Class certification.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Math 10C or equivalent, and successful completion of or current enrolment in English 20-2 or equivalent, or all five Canadian General Educational Development Tests (GED), or an Accuplacer assessment, or a passing mark in the Canadian Adult Education Certificate (CAEC). Applicants may also be accepted with a valid Power Engineering 5th Class certificate.
