Cert in Medical Office Administration

NSCC's Medical Office Administration certificate prepares students for administrative roles in healthcare settings such as hospitals, physicians' offices and other medical facilities. The one-year program builds foundational skills in medical terminology, health-information technology, professional ethics and general office practices, along with the communication and organizational skills needed to manage medical records and coordinate patient and paperwork flow. Students practice the day-to-day tasks of a medical office administrator, including scheduling, billing support and front-line communication with patients and health-care providers. The program includes a mandatory field experience placement of approximately five weeks, typically unpaid. International graduates of this program are not eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit and instead require a co-op work permit along with a medical exam. Graduates are prepared for administrative employment across hospitals, medical clinics and other health-care organizations.
