Overview
Marine Engineering Management Technology at Nova Scotia Community College is a 1.5-year advanced diploma program that prepares graduates of the Marine Engineering Technology diploma, or certified Officers in Charge of an Engineering Watch, for management-level roles as ship Engineering Officers. Coursework builds on broad-based engineering system knowledge with a focus on marine engineering, electrical, electronic and control engineering, and maintenance and repair at the management level. Delivery is in person, full-time, at the Strait Area Campus in Port Hawkesbury. Graduates find employment with shipping companies operating cargo ships, tankers, passenger ferries, and research and offshore supply vessels; the certification achieved is recognized by the International Maritime Organization through Transport Canada. Admission requires a Marine Engineering Technology diploma or an Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch certificate with six months of sea time, plus a valid Transport Canada Marine Medical certificate.

Admission Requirements: Nova Scotia Community College requires applicants to hold a Marine Engineering Technology diploma, or a certificate as Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch with six months of sea time as an engineering watchkeeper. A valid Transport Canada Marine Medical certificate indicating fitness for service, issued by a Transport Canada-recognized examiner, is required. International applicants must submit official post-secondary documents for assessment and meet NSCC's institution-wide English proficiency standard: IELTS Academic minimum 6.0 on each band, TOEFL iBT total score of 4 with minimum section scores of 3.5 in Reading, Listening and Writing and 4 in Speaking, Duolingo English Test 115 overall with no subscore below 95, CAEL Band 60, or PTE Academic 55, or an exemption.
