Early Childhood Education Diploma

Admission Requirements: Academic base: B.C. secondary-school graduation or the equivalent, or being 19 or older and out of secondary school for a year as of the first day of classes, plus English 12 at 60 per cent or an accepted alternative. International applicants who cannot present English 12 satisfy the same English line through the College's test table at the 60 per cent level: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band under 6.0, TOEFL 79 internet-based, CAEL 60, PTE Academic 56 with no communicative skill under 55, or Duolingo 105; results must be under two years old. Duolingo is not accepted for some health programs, so confirm with Admissions before relying on it. General requirements: a valid first aid certificate meeting Schedule C of the B.C. Child Care Licensing Regulation, maintained for the whole program; criminal record check clearance through the B.C. Criminal Records Review Program, started only when Admissions instructs you and returned by their deadline; and the completed ECE Program Information and Student Questionnaire form sent out by Admissions. Health and practicum notes: current immunisation is strongly advised, as some child-care organisations ask for proof before a placement. Applicants also look over the College's Requisite Skills and Abilities checklist for Health and Social Development, submitting it when the program starts, because students take part in hands-on simulated practice and in placements caring for young children. Students pay their own travel to field trips, observation assignments and practicum sites. The College reserves the right to refuse admission where there is substantiated evidence, medical or otherwise, that admitting the applicant would put clients, agency staff or other students at risk.
