Okanagan College offers Early Childhood Education: Infant and Toddler Certificate, a certificate in Education & Teaching programme in Kelowna, Canada. The programme runs for 1 year, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition is CAD 2,500 per total for local students.
This certificate builds the competencies and knowledge needed to work with children under three years old in licensed childcare facilities. Completing the required coursework satisfies the British Columbia Early Childhood Educator Registry's criteria for certification as an Infant Toddler Educator, meeting the BC Child Care Sector Occupational Competencies the registry requires.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Domestic applicants only, per the College's program page. This is a post-basic certificate, so the entry requirement is a completed early childhood education credential rather than secondary-school courses.
Entry basis: satisfactory completion of the Okanagan College ECE Certificate, or a current B.C. ECE Registry Certificate to Practice. An applicant with neither may still be admitted to individual components of the certificate, on the written recommendation of the ECE department chair and if space allows.
Also required: evidence of current first aid that includes child-safe and infant CPR certification; and criminal record check clearance through the B.C. Criminal Records Review Program, started only when Admissions instructs you and returned by their deadline, since a late clearance letter can cancel the application.
The College reserves the right to refuse admission where there is substantiated evidence, medical or otherwise, that admitting the applicant would put clients, agency staff or other students at risk.
