Overview
Environmental Biology is a specialization within Ontario Tech University's Biological Science program, leading to a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree. The program prepares students for careers in the environmental sector through study of the natural sciences and the diversity of life, from genomes to ecosystems, in both natural and human-impacted environments. Students develop foundational knowledge in biology alongside applied skills relevant to environmental research and management. A direct-entry co-op option is available, combining academic study with paid work terms arranged through Ontario Tech's co-operative education program (OUAC code DSL for the regular program, DLC for co-op). Students interested in management can extend their studies into the five-year Bachelor of Science and Management (Honours) program, which adds a foundation in finance, accounting, operations, project management and marketing alongside the science curriculum. The median upper-year class size is 21 students, and about 90 per cent of graduates are employed within six months of graduation.

Admission Requirements: Current Ontario secondary school students must complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U or 4M credits, including English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), and two of Biology (SBI4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) or Physics (SPH4U). A combined minimum 70 per cent average in prerequisite math and science courses is required; it is recommended that all four of MCV4U, SBI4U, SCH4U and SPH4U be taken. Admission is competitive and the specific average required varies from year to year; students are selected based on school marks, distribution of subjects taken and performance in subjects relevant to the program. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Last year's cut-off was 70 per cent, with an expected cut-off in the low 70s.
