This certificate prepares students to work with children from birth to age twelve. Coursework covers childhood growth and development, working with children of diverse abilities, programme-planning strategies, building relationships with children and their families, and professionalism in early learning settings, combined with practical placements. The programme consists of ten theory courses and two practicums, delivered fully online to domestic students, with live, instructor-led classes held two evenings a week. Admission requires a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check, and students must complete the course ECDE100 Human Development before starting a practicum placement. On completion, graduates qualify for Level 2 Early Childhood Educator Certification through Child Care Staff Certification, Government of Alberta.
