Program details

Overview

English and Creative Writing is an undergraduate program administered by the Department of English Literature and Creative Writing in the Faculty of Arts and Science. The program centres on the study of literature and literary genres, examining verbal art, storytelling, and argument, and covers a range of literary voices and periods. Students in the program can also pursue Writing Studies coursework, including the WRIT course stream, alongside literature courses in the Department. Coursework develops critical thinking, close reading, and communication skills applicable to further academic study and to careers that require interpreting and constructing written arguments. The Department also offers a Creative Writing stream, allowing students to combine literary study with practice in original composition. Graduates of the Department's programs have gone on to further graduate study and to careers built on research, writing, and analysis. The Department is based in John Watson Hall on the Queen's University campus in Kingston, Ontario, and can be reached by email for questions about the program.
