Overview
Offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures since September 2017, this Major builds understanding of cultural diversity along with knowledge of different cultural practices and worldviews through the study of two languages. Students reach intermediate-level, 200-level, proficiency in both languages, or advanced-level, 300-level, proficiency in one language combined with introductory-level, 100-level, study in the other, alongside courses spanning multi-, cross-, and inter-disciplinary topics. Students have options to study in target-language-speaking countries as part of the program, developing language and cultural experience they bring back to share with classmates. The plan provides practical and theoretical training in intercultural awareness and sensitivity, combining core liberal arts strengths with skills relevant to Canada's multicultural society and to globalized professions. Full plan and course requirements are set out in the Faculty of Arts and Science Academic Calendar.
