The Master of Science (MSc), Field of Study Epidemiology is a full-time, 24-month, in-person, thesis-based program in the Department of Public Health Sciences. It provides a common methodological foundation for conducting research in human populations across a broad range of health-related areas, covering research design, biostatistics, program evaluation, health economics, and survey and administrative-data methods. Through a combination of coursework and independent research, students develop skills to communicate scientific findings, describe patterns of disease incidence and prevalence, critically appraise the epidemiological literature, apply epidemiological and analytic methods in research design, and collect, analyze, and interpret health data, culminating in a written and defended thesis. Established departmental research strengths include cancer, injury, obesity, disability, and mental health epidemiology, maternal, perinatal, and early childhood health, and research in public health, primary care, cancer care, and critical care contexts. Part-time study may be available for working professionals.
