The Professional Master of Education (PME) at Queen's University is a fully online, part-time, asynchronous program for educators and other professionals seeking to advance their careers. Students complete 10 graduate courses (5 required, 5 elective) within a chosen concentration — Assessment & Evaluation, Classroom Specialist, Educational Administration, Global Education, Indigenous Education, or Literacy Education — including PME 894 (Introduction to Educational Fieldwork) and a self-directed capstone project (PME 896). Courses run 10 weeks in the Fall and Winter terms and 7 weeks in Spring and Summer, at roughly 7-10 hours of work per week, and can generally be taken in any order, except that PME 894 is a prerequisite for the capstone. Applicants who have completed a post-graduate certificate and/or the Graduate Diploma in Education (GDE) through Queen's laddering route qualify for advanced standing, reducing the PME to two required and two elective courses. The program is course-based, is not eligible for funding packages or OSAP, and most students complete it in about two years, with up to five years allowed.
