Concurrent Education at Queen's University is a five-year, in-person program in which students earn two degrees at once: a Bachelor of Education alongside an Honours Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Arts in French Studies, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, or Bachelor of Music. Students take education courses alongside their undergraduate degree from their first year, choosing between the Primary-Junior (Kindergarten to Grade 6) or Intermediate-Senior (Grades 7-12) teaching division at the end of year one. Early years include community-based placements working with children and youth, followed by a classroom practicum in year three. In year four, students may apply to a track program such as Artist in Community Education, Indigenous Teacher Education, Outdoor and Experiential Education, or Primary-Junior French as a Second Language, or select a concentration for year five. The program concludes with an extended block of supervised in-school practicum in publicly funded Ontario schools plus a two-week alternative practicum, which may be completed internationally. Classes are held on the Kingston campus, with practicum placements across partner school boards in southern Ontario.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Selection is based on applicants' academic standing; prerequisite courses are the same as those required for entrance into the Bachelor of Arts (including French), Bachelor of Science (including Kinesiology), or Bachelor of Music degree program the applicant is concurrently applying to at Queen's. Applicants apply to Concurrent Education at the same time as their Arts, Science, or Music degree through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre. Admission to the direct-entry Bachelor of Music stream also requires a successful live or recorded audition/portfolio demonstrating musical ability.
