Overview
The Business Diploma at Red Deer Polytechnic is a two-year program covering core business functions including accounting, marketing, management, human resources, operations, entrepreneurship and finance across 20 courses. Year one builds foundational knowledge in business topics and skills, financial accounting, data and information management, micro- and macroeconomics, personal finance, human resource management, marketing principles and business writing; year two covers management principles, business statistics, management accounting, corporate finance, business law, and innovation and entrepreneurship, plus two elective business options such as digital marketing, project management or investing. The program includes at least 90 hours of work-integrated learning through industry and community placements. Graduates can enter Year 3 of RDP's Bachelor of Business Administration. Students must pass all courses with a minimum grade of "D" and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 (62%). The program suits students seeking broad, practical business training across multiple functional areas rather than a single specialization.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires 60% in ELA 30-1 or 65% in ELA 30-2, plus 60% in Math 30-1 or 65% in Math 30-2; applicants may instead qualify through the ACCUPLACER placement test (minimum 250 Reading, 250 Writing and 5 on the WritePlacer essay for English, and/or 250 on Arithmetic for math, valid within two years of the program start date) or successful completion of the RDP Business Certificate or equivalent. Applicants whose first language is not English must show three years of full-time English-medium schooling, ELA 30-1/30-2 at 60%, an approved pathway program, or one of: CAEL 60 (55 per band), Duolingo 115-125, IELTS Academic 6.5 (5.5 per band), MET 61 (58 per band), PTE 59 (56 per band), Oxford ELLT 7, or TOEFL 83 iBT/557 PBT.
