Overview
Dental Assisting is a one-year certificate that provides the skills and knowledge to assist a dentist with four-handed dentistry and the use and application of dental materials. Coursework covers head and neck anatomy, infection prevention, laboratory techniques, and the relationship between oral and general health. Students practice intra-oral skills directly on patients, learn dental-practice management, and complete clinical rotations at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Dentistry as well as a dental-office practicum. The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada and is delivered full-time at the Notre Dame Campus in Winnipeg, with an August intake. Due to high demand, this funded program is open to Manitoba residents only, and applications from outside the province are cancelled without refund.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires Grade 12 graduation, or final-year enrolment, including one credit each of Grade 12 English (40S), Grade 12 Math (40S), and Grade 12 Science (40S); Grade 11 Applied Math or Pre-Calculus Math (30S) is not required but is strongly recommended. Applicants aged 19 or older who have been out of high school for at least a year may qualify as mature students with one credit each of Grade 12 English (40S) and Grade 12 Science (40S). Applicants who completed three years of full-time secondary education in Canada, the US, or an ELR-exempt country in English meet the language requirement; others must submit one of RRC Polytech's approved certificate-level English assessments. First Aid certification and healthcare immunization and testing compliance are also required, and this funded program is open to Manitoba residents only.
