Overview
Educational Assistant Certificate is a six-month, full-time program that prepares students to work with students in educational settings, supporting the work of teachers and clinicians. Coursework covers child developmental needs and instructional strategies, with a focus on inclusive education, learner characteristics, supporting the learning environment, behaviour management, and professionalism. Students complete oral presentations, written assignments, and group projects before a supervised practicum placement. Progression to practicum requires successful completion of all theory courses, together with a Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector check and a Provincial Child Abuse Registry check. The program is delivered in-person at five Manitoba campuses: Interlake (Selkirk), Portage la Prairie, Steinbach, Winkler, and Notre Dame (Winnipeg), with entry dates that vary by campus. A part-time, online study option is also available.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires Grade 12 graduation, or final-year enrolment, including one credit of Grade 12 English (40S), plus a completed Applicant Declaration for Check Documents form. Applicants aged 19 or older who have been out of high school for at least a year may apply as mature students by submitting official transcripts, a resume, and a handwritten letter explaining their interest in the program. Applicants who completed three years of full-time secondary education in Canada, the US, or an ELR-exempt country in English meet the language requirement; others must submit one of RRC Polytech's approved certificate-level English assessments.
